What Types of Wounds Do We Treat?
At the Texas Center for Advanced Wound Care we treat all lower extremity wounds.
These include: Venous Ulcers, Arterial Ulcers, Diabetic foot Ulcers, Pressure Ulcers, Traumatic Ulcers, and any other Non-Healing wounds.
How Do We Treat Wounds?
Our approach to wound management includes:
- First a detailed assessment of the patient and the patients wound
- We then perform various vascular studies to determine how the patient’s blood flow is affecting the wound.
- We always address Infection control
- This is done through various Antibiotics, IV Antibiotics if needed, also through advanced wound care dressings / topical, and Debridement of the wound
- Wound debridement - We believe through experience and vast amounts of research and studies that frequent debridement of the wound is crucial. This will be performed with appropriate anesthesia so that the patient is comfortable and without pain.
- Skin Grafting - There are a vast number of bioengineered skin grafts and skin substitutes on the market today. Our Wound Care Center has had great success using these techniques. From Apligraf, Dermagraft, Graft Jacket and many more we are aggressive in using skin substitutes when the wound calls for it.
- Grow factor therapy - We use all of the most advanced growth therapy treatments available
- Advanced wound care products - We keep in house stocks of the most advanced wound care products available today. We also believe we must continue updating our products to stay on the cutting edge of treatment.
- Surgical intervention - When there is a need for surgical treatments such as: Anatomical correction of deformities, aggressive debridement’s, skin grafting, skin flaps, to removing bony prominences. Dr. Graff has been specifically trained to surgically treat the lower extremity.
- Diabetic foot management - One of our specialties. We provide each diabetic with specific approaches to properly maintain their diabetic feet. This ranges from using our unique 3D scanning device to properly fabricate appropriate diabetic insoles and shoes, frequent diabetic foot checkups and maintenance, and the needed educational material along with instructions to prevent wound occurrence.
- Specialized dressings to promote healing and limit the potential for infection - This goes along with our advanced wound care products. From the products that go directly on the wound, to the type of shoe gear or offloading products, we will ensure you have everything that is available to treat your wound.
- Vacuum-assisted wound closure
- Edema control
- Compression therapy
- Pressure relief
- Education regarding dressing changes, skin care and nutrition
After my wound heals then what?
Once your wound has healed we will provide each patient with the most appropriate shoe gear, offloading devices, and education to promote a long enjoyable life wound free. When needed we will perform surgical corrections of the deformities which caused the wound in the first place. A majority of wounds are caused not only from being diabetic or having poor blood flow, but from structural changes in their foot or ankle, which changed the patient’s normal biomechanics and pressure distribution. If these structural changes are not addressed then no shoe gear or foot care can prevent wound reoccurrence. We will ensure each patient and families are informed on the cause of each wound, and also provide guidance and education to prevent wound reoccurrence.
